JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Head of Junior School
Communication Date : Friday 19 August, 2022
Upcoming information for Term 3, Week 7
It has been a busy week in the Junior School with a wonderful visit from Musica Viva who shared a “Rhythm Works” concert with our students. Our students had a great time seeing different percussion instruments up close and hearing the songs live that we have been learning in class. Be sure to ask your child what they enjoyed about this experience as you spend some time together over the weekend. We have been rehearsing our musical songs, getting ready for book week, taking part in art club and so much more. I love the energy around our Junior School with something to do each day and variety within the week to ensure we create opportunities for our students to discover new talents, explore new ideas and try something new. Thank you for being part of this journey in our community each day and for partnering with us as your child continues to grow.
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER BARISTAS
Have you always wanted to work in a coffee shop or know how to make an almond latte? We would love some parents to volunteer to open Café Flourish for parents at various times throughout the week. If you are able to volunteer some time and are interested in serving our community please email [email protected] to let her know of your availability. Training is provided and free coffee each time you are our Barista!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO VIEW OUR ONLINE ASSEMBLY FROM THIS WEEK
Due to exciting preparations for our school Musical, this week our students had an online assembly in thier classrooms. We wanted to make this available for parents so that they are able to celebrate their child's achievements if they received an award. YEAR 1 HOMEWORK
The Year 1 homework books had an extra sheet this week for students to complete regarding their three photos (refer to Week 5, Weekly Publication). If this wasn't completed, we have sent the book home to complete over the weekend. The students will share this information next week with the rest of the class. Please note: if you cannot print photos, email your class teacher the pictures and we can do this for you.

WEEKLY UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT : COMMUNICATING WITH STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
A reminder to Parents: please be mindful that if you have a question or concern about another child at school, it is not appropriate to approach that child or children on your own to solve a matter or seek clarification. The appropriate course of action is to discuss your concerns or seek clarification with your child’s classroom teacher so that they can investigate and understand what has occurred to support you through the scenario. As you can appreciate, the power imbalance from a parent to another child may cause our children to feel unsafe, even if that is not the intent of the conversation. Thank you for wisdom in this.

BOOKCLUB
Issue 6 Book Club catalogues have been sent home with students - orders will close on Wednesday, 31 August.
To place an order and make payment please use – LOOP – Linked Online Ordering and Payment available on www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP Apple or Android app. Please note there are no cash orders. Please do not send any orders to school. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our library and classrooms, however there is never any obligation to order.
Whilst the majority of book titles in the Scholastic catalogues help our students foster their love of reading and are just fantastic reads, at times the content of some books can be misaligned with our school or our own family values. When ordering, if you are unsure that the content would be appropriate, take a moment to check out a bit more about that particular title before ordering. Focus on the Family offer a great website that can be of assistance called Plugged In (https://www.pluggedin.com/) that offers reviews and content advisory warnings to help keep our kids safe. Common sense media is another website that can be a great resource to help parents find out what they need to know about the book your child is wanting to read also (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews).

FUNFEST
Funfest is nearly here! The auction is live, the piggies are ready to race, the volunteer rosters are out, the children are rehearsing, the signs are up, the plants for the stall are still alive and armbands are on sale.
We are all looking forward to Funfest again after a 3 year break and it's a great opportunity to spend time with Faith families and our community.
Competition forms have been sent home for the cake, lego, photo and colouring competitions and there is still plenty of time for the kids to complete an entry. Spare forms are available from Reception.
If you would like to make a donation of any kind, we are still gratefully accepting chocolates, prizes and items for the auction and baked goods and sweets for the stall. Please check the last Funfest newsletter for details (in Week 6 publication).
Please email [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you so much for your and your donations and for being involved. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
