JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Deputy Head of Junior School
Communication Date Friday, 11 August 2023
We have arrived at the halfway mark of Term 3 and as with all weeks it has been another busy and successful one with the opportunity to celebrate our sporting and tennis champions at Assembly this week. Thank you to those parents who came along to celebrate their child’s achievement, it’s always wonderful to have families in our assemblies.
I would just like to remind parents of our morning protocols. Students are welcome to arrive at school any time from 8:00am onwards, as we have staff on duty at this time, however families are reminded that no children, or parents, should be entering the classrooms until their teacher welcomes them in at 8:25am (or 8:10am on Connections morning). Staff are extremely busy in the mornings, setting up for the day, attending morning devotions, on yard duty or meeting with other staff. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, please email them to make a time to meet. We thank you for respecting our staff’s time and busy mornings by supporting us in this way.
We hope you have a fabulous long weekend and enjoy the opportunity to get out and about in the sunshine. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday of next week.

BULLYING NO WAY!
On Friday, 18 August the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is recognised throughout Australian schools.
During the week of the 14 to 18, August students will be doing class activities and chatting about bullying, the impacts and how we can prevent it. The theme for ‘Bullying No Way’ this year is ‘Growing Connections to Help Prevent Bullying’. Research shows that strong school community connections and social skills are protective factors in the prevention of bullying and help enable positive, help seeking behaviours in students.
As part of our acknowledgement of this important message students are encouraged to wear a splash of orange on Friday, 18 August, they may replace one item of clothing with something orange, while still wearing the rest of their school uniform; either PE/Sport or Formal. Thank you for your ongoing support as we partner together in holistically educating the students.

PREP VISION SCREENING
A Registered Nurse will be visiting Prep students on Wednesday, 13 September 2023 to commence vision screening. Can we please ask all Prep families to complete the online form and indicate if you wish to accept or decline the screening for your child. Participation in vision screening is not compulsory, however, it is helpful if you can indicate your preference.
Please complete the form via the link or QR Code (consent form will close on Sunday, 27 August 2023): https://visionscreening.health.qld.gov.au/ParentalConsent/060481J3
If your child’s vision is screened, you will be advised of the results. If a vision concern is found, you will receive a phone call from the nurse to discuss referral to an eye health professional for further assessment. If a vision concern is identified and your child requires glasses, eligible health care card holders may be assisted with free basic glasses through the Spectacle Supply Scheme.
If you have any questions, please contact the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program on 1800 687 372.
