JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Acting Head of Junior School
Communication Date Friday, 6 October 2023
Welcome back everyone. We have had a smooth and positive start to the new term. Thank you parents and students for being well ready for our return to school on Tuesday. Term 4 is about finishing the year well; giving our best efforts right to the end of term and enjoying some celebrations as we conclude the school year.
Once again, students were involved in leading our two significant weekly Junior School routines. At Tuesday’s Chapel we were given a glimpse of heaven as students shared what the Bible tells us in answer to various questions. Questions like ‘What will heaven be like?’ We celebrated at yesterday’s assembly various student achievements and were reminded of ‘courage’ (one of our 5Cs). This week’s Staff Member of the Week Awards were given to Mr Byrne & Mr Irvin; they are amazing at keeping everything working well and looking great around our school. Thank you.
To help our school run smoothly, and to keep everyone safe at school, we have various procedures in place. Please see the reminders below regarding medication at school, and school arrival/departure. Staff will be speaking with students about these reminders too.
Best wishes for the term ahead.
Peter Weier
Acting Head of Junior School
Bible Verse of the Week: Psalm 56:3 "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you".

If your child requires medication during the school day, can you please ensure the following:
- All medication is to be accompanied by our Medication Authority Form (as below).
- All medication to be administered requires the authority form to be signed by a parent/guardian with dosage, time/s to be administered and the period of time the medication is required for.
- Medication has a chemist label with your child's name and dosage instructions.
- Students are not to bring medication to school themselves, parents/guardians must hand medication and authority form to a school staff member in the Student Hub or to an Outside School Hours Care staff member (for those families arriving before the school office is open).
BEFORE SCHOOL ARRIVAL TIME IS FROM 8:00am
A reminder to families that students arriving at school prior to 8:00am need to attend our Before School care service. For the safety of students we do not want them to arrive earlier than 8:00am and be unsupervised in case an accident or incident occurs when staff are not on duty. Before School care is open from 6:30am each day and accepts both regular and casual bookings. Please ensure parents dropping at OSHC are only using the Drive Thru zone for parking and not our staff carpark (ENTRY 1) in front of the administration building. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.

AFTER SCHOOL COLLECTION
It is wonderful to see connections happening with our families, however, we have noticed an increase in the number of students playing on the school equipment outside of school hours. Safety of our community is of the utmost importance, so we ask you to please move from the Prep area or other areas of the school once your child has come to you and not allow them to play on the school equipment after hours. We encourage families to arrange playdates, soccer games and catch-ups to further foster strong connections, at local parks or playgrounds outside of school. We thank you for playing an active role in keeping our students safe and being part of the Faith difference.

DRIVE THRU PROCEDURES - SAFETY MATTERS
For the safety of all staff and students please ensure the following procedures are followed at all times. Staff will ask you to move on or cease any procedures that are unsafe for our students and families.
For the safety of all staff and students please ensure the following procedures are followed at all times. Staff will ask you to move on or cease any procedures that are unsafe for our students and families.
- Do not enter the drive thru lane until 2:55pm each afternoon. Cars that arrive earlier than this cause a traffic jam and make it difficult to move the collection of students through as quickly as possible.
- Between the hours of 6:30am – 7:50am and 3:30pm – 6:00pm Drive thru is a loading zone parking area for OSHC pick up and drop off. This is the designated OSHC parking, parents should not park in the administration and staff carpark (ENTRY 1), when dropping off or picking up their child from OSHC.
- School bags must only be placed inside the car. Bags are not to be collected from the boot or put into the boot when departing. This is a safety issue to ensure students are not at risk of being hit by a car from behind. If you have a baby seat in the car preventing you from being able to use the back seat, please advise our drive thru staff who are on duty and we will ensure we can assist your child to keep them safe.
SCHOLASTIC BOOKCLUB
Bookclub issue 7 is out! Orders close on Sunday, 15 October. To place an order and make payment please use – LOOP – Linked Online Ordering and Payment available on www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP Apple or Android app. Please note there are no cash orders. Please do not send any orders to school. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our library and classrooms, however there is never any obligation to order.
Whilst the majority of book titles in the Scholastic catalogues help our students foster their love of reading and are just fantastic reads, at times the content of some books can be misaligned with our school or our own family values. When ordering, if you are unsure that the content would be appropriate, take a moment to check out a bit more about that particular title before ordering. Focus on the Family offer a great website that can be of assistance called Plugged In (https://www.pluggedin.com/) that offers reviews and content advisory warnings to help keep our kids safe. Common sense media is another website that can be a great resource to help parents find out what they need to know about the book your child is wanting to read also (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews).
