JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Acting Head of Junior School
Communication Date Friday, 10 November 2023
Today we commemorated Remembrance Day with a special Junior School service. Our service was led by three of our Year 6 leaders with the involvement of the Combined College Choir (which had sixteen Junior School students as members). During our service we focused on some aspects that are likely to be seen or heard at a service on Remembrance Day.
At yesterday’s assembly, current Year 5 students were introduced and congratulated as student leaders for 2024. Every student is selected to carry out a leadership role during their final year in our Junior School and has a responsibility as either a leader, ambassador or steward. Congratulations students and best wishes as you act as role models and leaders in the year ahead.
We continued to be challenged with some BIG questions during Tuesday’s worship. Students from Year 3K shared with us some responses to ‘Who wrote the Bible?’ and ‘Can we trust the Bible to be true?’. Thank you students for your involvement in our worship time.
Next week; it’s going to be a Big Splash!
Tomorrow, Saturday 11 November, is Remembrance Day. At 11:00am please remember to remember.

- The slouch hat has been worn by Australian soldiers since the time of the First World War. It has become a national symbol and is associated with the men and women who serve our country as members of the Australian Defence Forces. Today we used the slouch hat to represent all those who have served our country as members of the army, air force or navy, and particularly the many who have lost their lives in war.
- Red poppies have long been associated with World War I that happened over 100 years ago. The flowers grow naturally in some of the areas in northern France and Belgium that were the battlefields during that war. The flowers became a symbol of the loss of life during war. Red poppies are worn on Remembrance Day to help us remember that many have lost their lives in war and many others have been affected by war.
- The Last Post is a piece of music played on a bugle or trumpet. In military tradition, it is played to indicate the end of the day’s activities. The Last Post is played at services on Remembrance and ANZAC days.
