JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Acting Head of Junior School
Communication Date Friday, 3 November 2023
During this past week I have had the great pleasure of chatting with Junior and Senior students who have made themselves available for College leadership roles for 2024. At next Thursday’s Junior School Assembly, we will introduce our Junior School leaders for next year. Thank you, Year 5 students, for putting yourselves forward for a student leadership role. Mr Bruce Knox, who will be Head of Junior School from next year, had the opportunity to speak with some of the students about their thoughts on leadership. Mr Knox will be visiting our College over the next few weeks.
During this past week there were some significant days that were celebrated in Christian Churches. Tuesday was Reformation Day, a day on which many churches, including Lutheran churches, celebrate the rediscovery of a key message of the Bible, God is for us; His love for us is unconditional. Year 4A students helped to lead this week’s chapel to remind us of this great news. Wednesday was All Saints Day on which Christians remember and give thanks for those who have been part their own faith journeys.
Congratulations to this week’s winners of the Reading Award, Year 2F and Year 4D. Staff Awards were presented to Miss Quinn and Miss Hunter for all their amazing support and help.
Next Friday, we will have a special assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day which is on Saturday, 11 November. We will gather in the SPAH at 11:30am. Parents are welcome to join us.
Best wishes for the week ahead.

GIFTS OF GRACE
Based on this image, how would you feel if you were in the large group that has the least amount of resources in the world and the individual at the other end who represents a small group that have the majority of the resources? A bit imbalanced?
ALWS’ (Australian Lutheran World Service) work is to address this issue through community-based projects that gain traction through people like you. To make this happen ALWS produce a Gifts of Grace catalogue each year to support their vital work. Look out for the catalogue which will arrive home shortly.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKCLUB
Issue 8 orders close on Friday, 10 November. To place an order and make payment please use – LOOP – Linked Online Ordering and Payment available on www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP Apple or Android app. Please note there are no cash orders. Please do not send any orders to school. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our library and classrooms, however there is never any obligation to order.
Whilst the majority of book titles in the Scholastic catalogues help our students foster their love of reading and are just fantastic reads, at times the content of some books can be misaligned with our school or our own family values. When ordering, if you are unsure that the content would be appropriate, take a moment to check out a bit more about that particular title before ordering. Focus on the Family offer a great website that can be of assistance called Plugged In (https://www.pluggedin.com/) that offers reviews and content advisory warnings to help keep our kids safe. Common sense media is another website that can be a great resource to help parents find out what they need to know about the book your child is wanting to read also (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews).
