JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Head of Junior School
Communication Date 19 May 2023
Upcoming information for Term 2, Week 6
HEART week has been a fantastic way to remind us to look out for others before ourselves. I have been incredibly blessed by students as they have written notes of appreciation and heart shaped post it notes of what they are thankful for. It is great to see such a variety of dress up's today, with students symbolising who/what they are thankful for. We also had a wonderful Under 8's morning for our Kindy - Year 2 students where we took a moment to focus on exploring, discovering and playing. A big thank you to all our parent volunteers who came and helped out and made the day extra special.
In this week's upcoming information you will read about some new staff members that have joined us, information about our Premier's reading challenge, some book club news and our regular extra curricular activities information. We can't believe we are heading into Week 6 already!
As the weather continues to cool down please ensure your child's jumper has a name on it and even have a chat to them about placing it into their bag when they take it off. The lost property mountain continues to grow so any help in returning items to families helps the whole community.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL ON TIME
We are experiencing an increased number of students arriving late to school each day. Students are expected to arrive by 8:25am each morning ready for the day to begin at 8:30am. Arriving on time sets your child up for success as they start the day with routine, along with not missing important morning content and announcements. We thank you for your support.

CHANTELLE MEDOSEVIC - STUDENT COACH
Hi, my name is Chantelle and I am excited to be joining Faith as a student coach for Year 4 and 6. Most recently, I worked as a teacher aide in a local Special School. I was able to work alongside and learn from some amazing teachers, assisting children with diverse needs and disabilities. I have spent a great deal of my free time attending different types of training courses and seminars to grow my skillset so I can provide the children with the best care possible. Previous to this, I have had a long career in both early childhood and human resources. I am passionate about making strong connections with children, working through any challenges they may be facing and help them to grow and prosper. I am married and have a 6 year old son in Year 1. We originally moved from Sydney but fell in love with the Queensland lifestyle and decided to stay. In our free time, you can generally find us on the water or at a local park. I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Faith community, assisting the teachers to reach the curriculum goals and helping the students reach their full potential.

LARA HUTCHINSON - STUDENT COACH
Hi all! My name is Lara Hutchinson, and I am super excited to be joining the Faith family as a student coach in Year 1. I am always up for a challenge, just last year I ticked sky diving off my bucket list and I hope I can tick bungee jumping off soon as well! I’m eager for a different challenge which I’m sure will be very rewarding, as I begin my journey with Faith. I have always been involved in sports and grew up playing netball, which I still play now. A few years ago, I began netball coaching. It was through netball coaching that I discovered how much I enjoyed working with children and decided I wanted to turn it into a career. I have been working with children for 5 or so years now in different capacities and I am currently working through my Certificate III in Education Support. I am a big believer that each child is a unique individual and has specific needs which is why I am extremely excited to get to know the children and build upon those relationships. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2023.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Issue 4 Book Club catalogues will be sent home with students today/Monday. Orders will close on Friday, 2 June 2023.
To place an order and make payment please use – LOOP – Linked Online Ordering and Payment available on www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP Apple or Android app. Please note there are no cash orders. Please do not send any orders to school. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our library and classrooms, however there is never any obligation to order.
Whilst the majority of book titles in the Scholastic catalogues help our students foster their love of reading and are just fantastic reads, at times the content of some books can be misaligned with our school or our own family values. When ordering, if you are unsure that the content would be appropriate, take a moment to check out a bit more about that particular title before ordering. Focus on the Family offer a great website that can be of assistance called Plugged In (https://www.pluggedin.com/) that offers reviews and content advisory warnings to help keep our kids safe. Common sense media is another website that can be a great resource to help parents find out what they need to know about the book your child is wanting to read also (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews).
