JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Acting Head of Junior School
Communication Date Friday, 27 October 2023
The highlight of the past week in our Junior School was the installation of Pastor Brenton Altmann into his new leadership role in Lutheran Education Queensland. This took place during our Tuesday Worship time. Once again, our students were very much involved in leading the service, together with the involvement of First Assistant Bishop Ben Henschke of the Lutheran Church Australia, Queensland District. Congratulations students for your interest and participation in this special service. We were all very proud of you.
Congratulations to this week’s winners of the Reading Award, Years 4N and 2H. Nine Year 6 students were acknowledged at assembly for their participation in the recent Brisbane East Parliament House experience. Each student gave a one-minute speech in the Parliamentary Chamber. This week’s Staff of the Week awards went to Mrs Rasmussen for being a fabulous Year 2 teacher who brings fun & excitement to her classroom and Miss Hoseck for not only being a wonderful teacher but for also leading dance group.
Today we acknowledge and thank all our Faith staff for their commitment and dedication to their professional roles at our College and for the care they provide for our students. We acknowledge the work of teachers and support staff in all schools, early learning centres and places of learning. They are helping to grow the future.
We welcome to Faith two teachers who will join our staff team from 2024, Miss Kate McCullough and Mrs Maria Smith. You can read about them below. Early in the new year, and prior to school starting, families well be advised of class and teaching arrangements for the new school year.
Best wishes for the week ahead.

NEW STAFF BIO'S
KATE MCCULLOUGH - CLASSROOM TEACHER
My name is Kate McCullough, and I am excited to join Faith Lutheran College in 2024 as a full-time teacher. I have spent most of 2023 getting to know the Faith community as a relief teacher.
I graduated from ACU in 2021 with a Bachelor of Primary & Early Childhood Education. While completing my studies I worked at a local Childcare setting, teaching 2–3 year olds and Kindergarten. It is this experience that has shaped me into the teacher I am today, supporting me with my teaching strategies and moulding my teaching pedagogy. Last year I completed my graduate year at a local school teaching Year 2. This year was extremely rewarding as I assisted students with their learning and ultimately being a part of their learning journey.
On a personal note, I enjoy going camping and four-wheel driving. I love travelling and some of my favourite holiday destinations are Bali, as well as visiting my great aunt and cousins in England.
I can’t wait to return in 2024 and becoming a permanent member of Faith. I look forward to being greeted with all your friendly faces next year.

MARIA SMITH - CLASSROOM TEACHER
Hi, my name is Maria Smith and I am very excited that I have been blessed with the opportunity to join Faith Junior School as a full-time teacher. Teaching is my passion and I love doing what I do! Magic happens in the classroom, and I believe that the opportunity of a rich and holistic education is to be had by all. I am a life-long learner and enjoy reading and discovering new things. I believe in the total well-being of people and when the heart is happy everything else falls into place.
I have been teaching for almost 30 years! Throughout my career I have taught all levels, many times over and have also taught art, music and Italian. We moved from Victoria to the Redlands in 2019 and love being in Queensland. My husband and I have six children between us, the eldest being 32 and the youngest 7 years old. I love to be creative, and you will often see me wearing dresses that I have made. I also love to knit and crochet. I make a “mean” lasagne and love cooking!
My husband and I love music and we both have performed at various functions and places where we have been in bands and as an acoustic duo. I am a trained vocalist, and love to play the ukulele and guitar.
My family is my everything and when we get together, we are very noisy! I support Storm, Dolphins, Westham United (EPL) and Essendon (AFL).
I cannot wait to be part of the Faith Lutheran journey and look forward to meeting the amazing students, teachers, and families. Looking forward to 2024 and beyond.

BOOK FAIR
Thank you to all families who supported our recent Book Fair. As a result, the College is able to add many great resources to our collection throughout the year and support all children on their reading journey. A super big thank you to Natalie Morrisby and her team of volunteers, who spent many hours organising and manning the Book Fair – your help is much appreciated! And congratulations to Maggie M, Jordan L, Alessi M, Ella R, Benjamin H, James P and Ryan B for having their entries chosen as the winners of the colouring-in competition.
