PREP PARENT LITERACY INFORMATION SESSION
We are excited to inform you that due to popular demand, we will be running a repeat of the Prep Literacy information session that was held earlier this term. The session will take place in the Prep Classrooms on Tuesday, 9 May from 5:30pm - 7:00 pm. During this session, you will have the opportunity to learn more about our SSP and home reading programs, as well as receive valuable tips on how to support your child's learning at home. We strongly encourage you to attend, particularly if you missed the first session. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

A reminder that if you need to collect your child early, if they arrive late, if you need to drop off medication, if they are unwell or you need to drop something in for your child during the school day, please:
- Park in our drive thru zone (outside of drop off & pick up times), not the administration car park
- Walk through the double school gates (along our new path) to our Cafe Flourish entry point and turn left to enter our Student Hub (rather than our Junior School reception)
- Students are NOT to be collected directly from classrooms (they must be signed out via the Student Hub)
PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
Our College has once again registered to take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, which begins next Monday, May 8. The challenge is an annual, state-wide reading initiative for students up to Year 9. It is not a competition, but a way to encourage students to develop a life-long love of reading by reading widely for both pleasure and learning. Since the program began in 2006, more than 20 million books have been read and in 2022 alone, 167,000 readers participated in the challenge and read more than 2.39 million books during the PRC reading period.
For a student to successfully complete the challenge they must read or experience the allocated number of books for their year level during the reading period (May 8-August 25). Students who complete the challenge have their efforts recognised through the receipt of a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Queensland. Please look out for the PRC Reading Record Form which will be sent home next week, along with further details. Looking forward to seeing lots of students complete the challenge!

BILBY'S BOOK CLUB
Starting this term, we will be offering families a second Book Club option, alongside our regular Scholastic Book Club. Book Clubs help to build a love of reading whilst also supporting the development of the school library collection.
Bilby’s Book Club contains an extensive selection of high-quality, curated, age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction titles. The titles in each catalogue have been individually selected by The Book Curator team, who have been supplying our libraries with books for many years and selecting books for many Christian schools for more than 15 years. Bilby’s Book Club is offered once a term – look out for Term 2 catalogues coming home next week.

MUNCH & CRUNCH
This is a great time for our students to have a snack that fuels their brain and keeps them going until their more significant food break at morning tea time. To help our students ensure munch and crunch is a quick break time, we need your help to remember to please place your child's healthy snack (e.g. piece of fruit, vegetable sticks) in a seperate container and not their lunch box so that it is easy to grab and go for them.

BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITES
A reminder to families, that our Junior School staff are unable to pass on birthday party invites on your behalf. As you can imagine, it can also be upsetting for some students when they do not receive an invite to a party so we respectfully request that you do not ask children to hand them out to other students either. Distribution of birthday party information should occur outside of school hours and not at school. Whilst we understand that it is easy for you to distribute information this way, we ask that you do not continue to send invites into school. Our teachers have been asked to return to you any invites they receive for you to distribute. We thank you for your understanding and support of this matter.

MOTHER'S DAY STALL
Our fantastic Events Committee will be holding our Mother's Day stall on Tuesday, 9 May. Students are able to bring in some cash to purchase something special to give mum on Mother's Day. Every year this is a much loved occasion as students take the time to visit the stall (with their class as rostered) and with the assistance of our fabulous parent volunteers they choose something special. A reminder that students will need to bring their money on the day if they wish to make a purchase; our staff are unable to phone parents and there will be no IOU's. We thank you for your support with this. |
CHESS MATES CLASSES
Chess Mates offers a weekly chess class to our Junior School students. Classes are held in the Library on Wednesdays from 1:20pm - 2:00pm. Please see the flyer below for details on how you can register your child for these great lessons. |
