JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS - From the Acting Head of Junior School
Communication Date Friday, 1 December 2023
FAITH CELEBRATES!
And what a week of celebration it has been. On Tuesday, Year 6 students reflected on not only the past year but on their entire primary school journey. What was impressive, was that the entire assembly and celebration morning tea was planned, prepared, and presented by the Year 6 students. Congratulations students and best wishes as you step into the next stage of schooling.
Last night was another opportunity for our College community to get together to acknowledge students’ achievements, thank some people, be entertained, have a good old singalong, and be reminded of the joy and hope offered by the Christmas message. Thank you, parents and students for being part of this significant College event.
And today, students and staff celebrated their last day together in their current classes. The school year has finished. Congratulations everyone for another year of learning, growth, and community building. Safe and happy holidays.
Joining the Junior School teaching team next year is Mrs Tammy Becker. Tammy shares some details about herself below. And, of course, Mr Bruce Knox, will commence as Head of Junior School in January. Bruce has been visiting Faith over recent weeks and shares a few details about himself below.
On a personal note, my time as Acting Head of Junior School will soon conclude. I have thoroughly enjoyed these past few months here and feel very blessed to have been a small part of the Faith Lutheran College story. May this school and its community continue to flourish. God bless.

NEW STAFF INFORMATION
BRUCE KNOX: I am very proud to be taking over as the Head of the Junior School next year. For the past month and a half, I have spent one day a week at school, getting to know and be known by the Junior School staff and students. I’ve been in classrooms joining discussions, colouring in, learning Japanese, touching up my long division and helping with research. In the break times, I’ve enjoyed kicking a football, shooting some baskets and digging for treasure in the sand pits. I’m learning what a wonderful school we have. The students and staff are also learning about me.
The preps wanted to know how tall I was. Some staff were interested to know why I chose Faith. Some Year 6 boys wanted to know if I could shoot a three-pointer, while Year 3s asked about my socks!
As I welcome you all onto campus at the start of 2024 I will be starting my 32nd year as an educator, and my first in Australia in 21 years. My journey as an educator beyond Australia has seen me traverse the globe, teaching in and leading international schools in China, Laos, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Lebanon and Egypt. Having returned to Australia, I am eager to bring my experience and love of learning to the Faith Junior School community to listen, learn and lead it into the years ahead.
And for those who were wondering, the answers are… 188 cm; Faith is a leading school in innovation; I’m averaging 1 of 3 from the 3-point line in competition; socks are meant to be as interesting as possible.
If you see me wandering around the campus, please come and introduce yourself and ask whatever question intrigues you. There’s no such thing as a silly question.
I can’t wait to meet you all!

TAMMY BECKER: Hello! My name is Tammy Becker and I am thrilled to be joining Faith in 2024. I have teaching experience through multiple year levels across Primary School, as well as previously being a Teacher Aide. I love working with children and am a strong believer that relationships are the most important part of school life; happy children learn.
My husband and I live in the Redlands with our two boys. We love watching, coaching and playing basketball on our weekends. We also love to travel and make memories together. I’m a proud Faith mum, and looking forward to being an even bigger part of the Faith community in 2024.

WHEN WILL I KNOW MY CHILD'S 2024 TEACHER?
Parents will be able to access class lists on Parent Lounge from Wednesday, 17 January 2024. Note that class information is unable to be released prior to this date as the College is still receiving applications for new students in the New Year and classes are not finalised until this has occurred. The link to access Parent Lounge is: https://tass.flcr.qld.edu.au/parentlounge/
As previously advised, whilst we do not accommodate specific teacher requests, our goal is certainly successful placement for all of our students. Your child’s current teacher knows what they need and how they learn best, so have confidence in their knowledge of both our staff and students as they prepare lists for 2024.

OUTSTANDING LIBRARY RESOURCES
Thank you to all families who have returned library books, home readers and other resources which belong to the College. For those who still have remaining loan items, we appreciate you continuing to search for them at home. As classrooms are cleaned and a library stocktake is completed, it is possible that some of these resources will be found at school too. Families of students who have items outstanding after these tasks are completed will be invoiced in the new year.

KEEP READING DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Holidays are a great time to read and it’s important to keep students reading during this longer break. Books make great Christmas presents and visits to the local library make a lovely day out.
eBooks are another option for holidays. Students can visit our ePlatform and find many great titles to read via a browser or app. Wheelers ePlatform has also recently added decodable readers for our younger students. To log into ePlatform, students use their school email address and password. Please note that the majority of our ebook collection is a shared collection which we do not curate, so parental guidance is recommended. We also have a limit to the number of books we can loan per month and while we don’t often reach that limit, students may at times receive messages to say that they have reached their maximum. It resets at the beginning of each month. Happy reading!
Questions: If you have any questions about any of the above, please contact [email protected] before December 8.
